raining special instructors through the agency of

the Physical Training Supervisor is inferior to that

whereby teachers are recruited to the school staffs

qualified for some share in physical instruction as

a part of their school duties. The Governor now

reports that, in accordance with the A.C.E.C.s view,

one physical training class for women teachers and

two for men have been instituted, and that those

teachers who completed the course in these classes

are now undertaking some physical training work in

their own schools. The system is to be extended so

as to include teachers in training at the University

and the new Teachers' Training Centre, and results

so far have been good. As regards paragraph 4 of

this despatch, a European Master qualified to teach

General form subjects and educational handwork has

now been appointed (Mr. Ravies see 53565/39).

No.10.

The previous papers on the subject

of the training of teachers in Hong Kong are 3 and 8

on 53541/38 and 3 and 5 on this file.

The new Teachers' Training College is to

undertake the training of non-graduate teachers for

Anglo-Chinese and vernacular schools, and post-

graduate training is to be left as hitherto to the

University Department of Education. It is also

apparent that there will be a good measure of

co-operation between the University and the Education

Department in the training of teachers.

? This despatch together with. No.9 should

be circulated to the A.C.E.C. for their information;x

and the opportunity might be taken to circulate the
